I don’t know about you but I just love reading the wholesome, wellbeing ideas of how to look after our inner self. Outer is obviously important too but I’m a huge advocate for promoting the benefits of looking after our inner bodies. Both from a functioning point of view of eating well, drinking lots of water etc but also that lovely feeling we get when we do something nice… Just because!
I think the new word on the street (well it’s not new but it is to me given I’ve just discovered it!) is Hygge. The simple things in life often serve us with the most satisfaction. That feeling of contentment and inner peace. Our mental wellbeing gets a good dose of that gorgeous wholesome loving that is oh so vital for our sanity!
My Gratitude Goal
We all work so hard that we need to find ways to stop and take a step back, take the time to waste a moment and just be. So, I decided to do a gratitude list. This one was a tough task in that it was to write 50 things I was grateful for at the end of each day. 50!!!
Now I’m not going to pretend it was easy, eyes burning and desperate to sleep, cat cuddled at my feet waiting for me to turn the light out (she’s demanding is my cat!) and I’m sat pen posed with a funky, eco friendly note pad, thinking of 50 things I’m grateful for from that day. 50 different things from the previous day, and the day before that. Yes, this was one of those tasks that someone mentions in passing that you hear yourself say (you know that voice in your mind that actually never stops talking?!) ‘Oh nice idea let’s do that!’, and it turns out it’s 50 things you are grateful for every day for a month!
OK, I didn’t quite make a month but I did make a couple of weeks… or there abouts. But you know, whether it was 2 weeks, 5 days or 2 nights, actually it was very therapeutic. It gave me the opportunity to pause. Look around and actually observe the lovely little things in life that I’m grateful for. And what’s more, seeing those things (as if for the first time) also made me appreciate them more…. and it meant I (finally) went to sleep with a cosy, comforting little feeling of self-love, gratitude and amazingness for the simple, satisfying things that I finally took the time to notice.
I challenge You!
I decided to include one of my gratitude lists. Don’t laugh! It’s simple, it’s a bit twee but it’s my gratitude list. So, I invite you to have a toot, have a giggle if you like but above all why not give it a go for yourselves?
