How To Have Confidence In The Face Of Change

When we think about the basic foundations of our life; work, home, relationships, health, and finances, we often find on occasion that one or more of these can be a little off kilter. And when they are, it can throw up feelings of uncertainty, make us question the belief and the trust in our ability to make decisions. This keeps us lying awake at night pondering the in and out and the what if’s of each situation and trying to think of every scenario or solution to prepare ourselves for what lies ahead.

Those ups when we feel deliriously happy are suddenly met by a tumble and we end up back at the bottom looking up and wondering where it all went wrong. How often have we heard someone say ‘we need the downs, to appreciate the ups’? Well thanks, that makes me feel really blimmin great right now whilst I’m sat down here looking up as you say that!

Ride The Waves
The truth is, life is about riding the waves. Those huge craters we crawl up and pull ourselves out of. The huge tidal wave that knocks us back down, the disheartened, lack of confidence that stands in our way. All of this is exactly what we need to help teach us about ourselves. Only when we are in the worst position, can we truly be tested. And only when we are tested, can we truly see a side to us we didn’t know was there. Sometimes it’s a good side, sometimes not so good but that is exactly how we can forge ourselves into a strong, resilient, determined and confident human being.

Confidence Is Learnt
If you are facing a period of change or you actually want to see some change, I’m sure you will read this and think ‘you have got to be kidding me’ – tidal waves?! Craters?! – Who says character building was meant to be easy? And for all those who compare yourself to others who are ‘naturally’ confident, resilient and determined thinking they are born that way, well guess what? Even they had to practice it as  it’s a learnt art!

All of those strengths that you need to get you through the change you are facing are built through going through the change! So, guess what? Whilst you might feel like you are wading through treacle and hitting a brick wall at every turn whilst battling feelings of anxiety and lacking ideas, keep in mind the person you will be on the other side.

So, whether you hate your job, your long term relationship has ended, you’re relocating, or whether you have realised you are completely and utterly fed up of your comfort zone and need to make changes to find you again. You are the one in control of your destiny.
